Tag 1
Halifax
<Welcome to Halifax! Your tour starts today with a 10am meeting, before heading off to the iconic Peggy’s Cove, just 30 minutes from the city. This picturesque fishing village is one of the most photographed places in all of Canada – for good reason! Rocky outcrops, the crashing Atlantic, colourful fishing boats and that famous red-tipped lighthouse are what you expect to see on Maritimes postcards. Follow your local leader along the Peggy’s Cove Rock Walk, which meanders along the barren coastline that glaciers created some 12,000 years ago. Grab lunch in the village (your own expense) – perhaps a creamy seafood chowder or fresh lobster roll. Head back to Halifax in the late afternoon, then regroup in the evening for an optional dinner. -
Tag 2
Lunenburg
<Head over to historic Lunenburg on the South Shore, approximately an hour’s drive from Halifax and one of only two urban communities in North America designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore nearby Blue Rocks on a leader-led walking tour and learn about this old fishing community that’s become a hub for artists and photographers. Enjoy some free time exploring the old town centre, which is a National Historic Site of Canada. And since Lunenburg was a rum-running town in the days of Prohibition, no trip would be complete without a sample of the local brews. In the afternoon, regroup for a behind-the-scenes tour of a local distillery that brews gin, vodka, whiskey, liqueurs and, of course, rum! -
Tag 3
Baddeck
<It’s a road trip day today as you make the 5-hour drive to Cape Breton Island. Stop in the town of Baddeck, which marks the beginning (and end) of the famous Cabot Trail. Join your leader for a walk through this quaint town on the shores of Bras d’Or Lake and learn about the region’s history, from the seasonal settlements of the Mi’kmaq to the summer home of telephone inventor Alexander Graham Bell. -
Tag 4
Cape Breton Highlands National Park
<Take a drive along the Cabot Trail and stop for a leisurely hike within Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The Skyline Trail is the park’s signature hike, which leads out to spectacular sweeping views over the sea. If it’s a nice day for driving, your leader will take you further along the Cabot Trail – a 4 hours’ drive, but with plenty of beautiful stops along the way. Enjoy a picnic lunch while you’re out along the trail before returning to Baddeck for the night. -
Tag 5
Charlottetown
<It’s an early start today, as you’ll leave Baddeck around 8:30am and drive to Membertou Heritage Park (approximately 1 hour). Learn about the living history of the Membertou Mi’kmaq community as you walk around the park grounds – you may also want to browse the Aboriginal arts and crafts in the park’s shop that features locally made Mi’kmaq works. From there, drive 5.5 hours to historic Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. In the evening, gather with your group for an optional goodbye dinner. -
